Toby Malek is a versatile media artist. He is an experimental film maker and a rapid sound and video installation artist. He is also a painter, at the moment working in watercolor. Central to his art are questions relating to culture and the relationship between mankind and his environment.
In 2003, he completed his study with a Master’s Degree in visual media arts at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. His artistic education fuelled an interest in scientific aspects of Art and Culture. At present he is working on a Dissertation and researching the subject of culture and its change, by looking at the effects of satellite TV media. The title of his Dissertation is: “Global TVs, Global Cultures”.
Born in Romania, Nuca attended The Art School in Bucharest, an architectural college, and learned tapestry technique in the Stoica Rada workshop. His artistic interest is stretching over the drawing, painting, sculpture, tapestry to fashion and interior design.
In 1989 Nuca moved to Germany. The artist attended the Jean Gebser Art Academy-School of Arts in Offenbach am Main. He became a member of the art combination-Phoenix-inter, a Member of the National Association of Artists and had numerous solo and collective shows. His works are in private collections in Romania, Germany, the Netherlands, Canada, USA and the City of Offenbach am Main. He arrived in Vancouver, BC in 2004.
Born in Taiwan, moved to Vancouver BC with her family fifteen years ago. Upon the completion of her high school, Wan Yu Wendy Chien studied at the University of British Columbia, majoring in studio art from 1998 to 2002. She earned her Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2006.
Svetlana Pugachova was born in Ukraine. She finished the Dnipropetrovsk Art School of Vuchetich in 1995. In 2000 she graduated from the Dnipropetrovsk State University, the Art and History of Culture Faculty. Svetlana is a professional artist. She took part in the exhibitions of young artists and has a lot of personal one.
Willow Yamauchi’s vibrant acrylic paintings are playful, bizarre, and occasionally apocalyptic, reflecting a personality which craves sensation and finds release in creative work. Her visual art is located between worlds: between her two childhood homes in Vancouver and the remote BC coast, between kitsch and “c”ulture, and between the domestic and the wild.
