This winter artwork by artist Toby Malek is a watercolour depicting a frozen or dream-like landscape. Malek uses a wet-in-wet dropping-in-colour technique that is seen here with the abstract blot on the lower right breaking into the seeming realism of a landscape as evidenced by the line of trees and reflective lake-like surface in the left foreground.
Realized during Malek’s Austrian period, this dreamy abstract gives a feeling of cool and contemplation. Part of the artists’ meditative series – the paint finds it’s way onto the paper as a kind of ‘controlled accident’ as described by the artist, thereby using watercolour in much the same way Jackson Pollock used oils and aluminium paint to create his action painting. This miniature wall art can compliment any interior design strategy on its own as an art accent in a home office, or as part of a series of similar sized prints or originals in any living space. Frozen View can be grouped with any of the artists’ miniature abstracts, in particular those with the same cool blue colour palette – The Calm Before and Ice Storm.
